Lindenmayer systems, better known as l-systems, describe generative, algorithmic process that can be used to produces visualisations of organic patterns like trees, ferns, leaves and other mathematically derived, recursive shapes. Some 3D software, like Maya and xFrog, use l-systems to produces 3D trees through mathematic processes.
